Luftgekühlt is 10

Luftgekühlt, the world-renowned air-cooled Porsche event, returned to Los Angeles for its tenth edition, marking a significant milestone – the 50th anniversary of the iconic Porsche 911 Turbo. Hosted at Universal Studios’ famous Backlot, ‘Luft 10: The Sequel’ showcased the very best of Porsche’s early turbocharged era alongside a stunning array of air-cooled models from across the decades.

Co-founded by former Porsche factory driver Patrick Long and Creative Director Jeff Zwart, Luft 10 told the diverse story of the 911 Turbo, both as a groundbreaking sports car and a dominant force in motorsport. The duo curated an unforgettable exhibition, taking full advantage of Universal Studios’ film sets, from New York City streets to European cobbled alleys, providing a cinematic backdrop for the iconic cars.

Motorsport highlights included the Vasek Polak Racing 934, which won the 1976 Trans-Am Championship, and the Kremer-prepared Wally’s Jeans 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR, a legend among Porsche’s customer racing cars. Also on display was the Martini Racing 917 Kurzheck, preserved in the condition it raced at the Spa 1000km in 1971.

While racing heritage took centre stage, Luft 10 also celebrated personal stories behind Porsche’s road cars. The event featured everything from factory-restored classics to restomods, with European custom builds sharing the limelight with beloved Californian cars like a 1977 Sahara Beige 911 S Targa, owned by a local father and son since 1980. Around 400 cars were showcased, each sparking conversation and admiration from attendees.

Since its humble beginnings in 2014, Luftgekühlt has grown into a global phenomenon, with events across the US and Europe. The return to Los Angeles was a fitting way to celebrate ten years of this unique air-cooled Porsche culture, blending motorsport history, cinematic flair and personal passion for one of the world’s most beloved sports cars.
