DS Automobiles reinvent the iconic SM

The SM Tribute is more than just a homage – it marks ten years of elegance and innovation since the birth of DS Automobiles and its participation in the first Chantilly Arts & Elegance. This stunning concept honours the legacy of the iconic SM, while also looking ahead with forward-thinking designs crafted by DS Design Studio Paris.

In 2020, DS Automobiles launched #SM2020, a series of sketches reimagining the 1970 SM. This internal competition among DS designers brought the spirit of the original SM into modern times. The team at DS regularly revisits the legacy of the SM and DS models, channeling their creativity into fresh designs.

The SM, originally designed in the 1970s, was a true icon of French automotive innovation. With its aerodynamic design by Robert Opron, powerful V6 engine, and advanced hydropneumatic suspension, the SM became a symbol of luxury and performance. Its meticulously crafted interior and cutting-edge technology left a lasting impression on automotive enthusiasts worldwide.

Its design draws heavily from the original SM’s sleek silhouette and luxurious details. The iconic front end is reinterpreted with a modern touch, featuring a 3D light-up screen and diamond-tipped DRLs. Its 22-inch wheels and lower ground clearance emphasise efficiency and performance. Inside, the design continues to honour the 1970 SM with oval instruments, a curved screen console, and a light, airy interior using ivory leather and Alcantara.

The SM Tribute was official unveiled at the recent Chantilly Arts & Elegance event, showcased alongside the original SM and other classic models. It marked DS Automobiles’ tenth year as a partner of the event, with the car taking centre stage at this year’s Concours d'Elegance.
