The Junkyard Collection

Since 1967, Rudi Klein quietly curated an extraordinary collection of rare cars and parts in a humble scrapyard in Southern Los Angeles. Known for his keen eye and passion for unique automobiles, Klein’s collection remained a well-guarded secret, whispered about only among select collectors.

Now, for the first time, RM Sotheby’s is bringing this hidden treasure to market. The Junkyard collection will be auctioned in a series of sales, offering collectors the chance to acquire iconic cars long thought lost, alongside a vast array of rare car parts and memorabilia.

The collection features some of the most sought-after classic cars in history, including the 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Alloy’ Gullwing and the 1935 Mercedes-Benz 500 K ‘Caracciola’ Special Coupe. Over 350 lots of rare parts – engines, transmissions, body panels and more – will also be up for grabs, with 200 of the most desirable items available in the live auction, totalling over 550 lots.

This will be the first time these legendary cars, long shrouded in mystery, are seen by collectors. Other highlights include a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, the one-of-a-kind 1964 Iso Grifo A3/L Spider Prototype, and three Lamborghini Miuras – offering rare restoration opportunities.
