The Transporter
This fantastic 1963 Gillig Model 590 bus was recently refurbished and modified as a fully enclosed Porsche race transporter. The bus features aluminium bodywork finished in red and grey with a period Porsche livery, while power comes from a replacement, rebuilt 7.0-litre Detroit Diesel engine.
Features include custom aluminium Budd wheels, Cummins Onan diesel generators, side and rear-view cameras, air conditioning, a machined aluminium dashboard, black walnut flooring, and aluminium rear ramps. This custom Gillig bus recently sold of auction site Bring a Trailer for almost $350,000.
The bus was reskinned in aluminium during the refurbishment and is finished in red and grey. Porsche crests are present on the sides and rear, and grey Porsche lettering and stripes line both sides. The right side and rear doors were rebuilt, and features include side and rear-view cameras, custom windows, right-side LED lamps, overhead beehive taillights, a receiver hitch, and underbody storage compartments.
