Kremer's denim-clad 911
Competition is second nature to Porsche, and the manufacturer has produced some of the best racing machines of their time. The Carrera RSR was one of these and, during the 1974 and 1975 seasons it cruised round circuits, dominating its class with ease. Developed from the celebrated Carrera RS 2.7, the 2.8-litre RSR became the 3-litre RSR, the ultimate evolution before the 934/935 Turbo era. It won multiple titles in FIA Group 4, as well as IMSA and Trans Am championships in the US.
The 3.0 RSR was equipped with a Type 911/75, 350bhp engine and a twin-megaphone exhausts which produced a sound to rouse anyone. It was also given five-spoke, centre-lock wheels (identical to those on the 917), fitted with ultra-wide 14-inch rear tyres. As always, the Weissach constructor paid great attention to the weight, using lightweight body panels and a stripped-out interior, to ensure it didn't exceed 900 kg. These characteristics gave the car a top speed of around 170mph.
When they ceased production of the RSR to focus on the 934, the factory still had four unused RSR chassis. One of these was used to build an extra example for Ludwig Heimrath, and the remaining three were given to Kremer Racing, one of the teams most closely connected with Porsche. The car featured here is one of those chassis, bearing number 005 0004. This is the 'secret' number allocated by Porsche, the first three digits relating to the year (1975) and the last four to the chassis number. And so the total of 911 3.0 RSRs built was 53 plus these four, 57 cars in total.
Once with the Kremer brothers, the car was assigned to the driver Cees Siewertsen (1974 Dutch champion in another RSR), to take part in the German DRM and GT championships, in the famous "Wallys Jeans Lucky Star" livery. During 1975, the RSR accumulated races and results, demonstrating its qualities and reliability, with just four retirements in 12 events. Siewertsen secured two victories (in July at Diepholz and in November in Hockenheim), in addition to a third place in October at Zolder.
