Ferrari's iconic Dino
Presented at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show, the Dino 246 GT succeeded the Dino 206 GT from 1968, with 3761 cars built from 1969-1974. It was designed somewhat in the spirit of the Alpine-Renault berlinette, but even more that of Porsche's 911 2.4. While Alpine initially used a mass-produced four-cylinder engine, the 246 GT's V6 was unmatched and much more sophisticated. With a capacity of 2418 cc, its performance was remarkable for an output of "only" 195 bhp. The captivating metallic sound of the engine contributed to the model's success, as it was in reality a detuned racing engine.
This particular Dino was delivered new in June 1972 to the dealer Motor S.p.a. in Bologna, Italy. It was finished in Marrone Metallizzato, with a beige interior. Today, it has kept the original colour for its leather but has been repainted in Ferrari's classic shade of red. It was entrusted to the Ferrari Zenith dealership in Lausanne, managed by Michel Zuchuat, for a complete restoration.
The Dino is one of the marque's legendary models, a classic with timeless styling. This example is available as part of Artcurial’s Sale Automobiles sur les Champs on the 1st November in Paris. For more details on this and other vehicles at the sale, click on the link below.
