The Green Hornet's 'Black Beauty'

Adapted from the 1930s radio program, The Green Hornet television series starred Van Williams as the masked vigilante Green Hornet, and martial arts legend Bruce Lee as Kato. A specially modified 1966 Chrysler Imperial called ‘Black Beauty’ was driven during filming by Lee and served as the crime-fighting team’s on-screen transportation. The car could create a smoke screen or spread tacks on the road to puncture the tires of pursuing vehicles, and it was fitted with a television camera that could see many miles ahead.

‘Black Beauty’ is one of over 40 Hollywood vehicles from cult classic films, television and video games to feature in the Petersen Automotive Museum’s latest exhibit – ‘Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy’. Vehicles, costumes, props and original blueprints from classic and modern-day film series and video games such as Transformers, Iron Man, Mad Max, Halo and many more will be on display until March 2020.
