1963 Shelby 289 Cobra 'Dragonsnake'

Carroll Shelby and his racing team remained a dominant force in motorsport throughout the 1960s. However, a handful of owners believed that they could beat Shelby at his own game, using cars bearing his own name.

This bright metallic pink 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra was one of very few cars built to spec with the legendary ‘Dragonsnake’ package. While most Cobras were extremely competitive on the race circuit, only a handful were created to dominate the drag strip. This particular ‘Dragonsnake’ was prepared independently, set numerous NHRA records and took home many titles over its illustrious racing history.

RM Sotheby’s will be offering this example at their upcoming Arizona auction on the 29th January, the estimated value is between $1.4m and $1.6m. For more information on this and other vehicles at the sale, click on the link below. Photo Credit: Drew Shipley ©2015 Courtesy of RM Sotheby's.
